BENEATH THE FLAME
Directed by Sally Corry, Produced by Jeff McDonald, Leapfrog Productions (2009, 57min)
Set against the influx of technology and political/social oppression the place of live music and dance in Romania and Slovakia is being challenged.
Filmed in Transylvania, Romania and Slovakia, Beneath The flame looks at the ability of live music and dance to bring a community together, give a sense of identity and cultural foundations to individuals and society. The musicians and members of the Roma and Hungarian communities discuss the importance of music to the community and community to the music. As a living rural culture, will this beautiful connection be lost?
